Tour de Yorkshire added to Storey Racing calendar

Just 3 days after the announcement of the team, Storey Racing were announced as part of an 18 team line up for the 3rd edition of the Women’s Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 29th April. Following the same route as the men’s race on the same day the riders will start in Tadcaster and finish in Harrogate including the famous Col de Lofthouse ascent in the second half of the race.

Attending the Y17 Welcome to Yorkshire conference, Dame Sarah Storey shared the stage with host Rob Walker, Sir Gary Verity and Ned Boulting as the teams for the two races were confirmed. This year sees Tour de Yorkshire making further strides in closing the gender gap which exists in cycling as they ensure the same number of teams for both races, increase prize money and reiterate their ambition to make the women’s race a 2 day event for the future.

The excitement at the announcement was tangible and also gave Dame Sarah the opportunity to expand on the Storey Racing ambitions for the future.

With Yorkshire also the hosts of the 2019 World Road Race Championships the significance of the Tour de Yorkshire event will continue to grow, in legacy of the Grand Depart of the Tour de France which was such a huge success in 2014.

Following the conference and team announcement Dame Sarah said, “This is a great opportunity for our new team to rub shoulders with the World’s best inside the first six weeks of our existence. There are World Tour teams galore on the start line along with a host of British talent from both professional and amateur teams. We have good experience amongst our riders and some untapped talent too, so are excited to see who the final line-up will be for the event.”

Storey Racing will recce the route on Saturday 15th April with their final rider selections confirmed in the week prior to the event.
