With the domestic road season all but filtered out it was a welcome opportunity to bring a small team together for the National 10 mile Time Trial Championships. Held on the A66 from the top of Lake Bassenthwaite towards Cockermouth it was a relatively flat route with just the wind to contend with alongside the many vehicles you might expect on a busy trunk road.
Hannah Dines, who has been away for much of the season competing in the UCI Para Road World Cup and C1 events, was able to make the journey and as the only trike on the start line was fired up for a very personal assault on her power PB’s and the technical aspects of time trialling she has been so diligently working on all year.
Chanel Mason, Lizzy Banks and Monica Dew completed the Storey Racing line up to come 9th, 14th and 19th respectively, despite illness in the past week for the latter two.
For Chanel the journey north from her base in Dorset had been quite epic, but her powers of recovery were in abundance to provide her with a power PB over the distance and a top 10 for good measure too.
Both Lizzy and Monica expected to be a little below par having suffered health-wise, but the pair pushed on in the gusty wind conditions and collectively with Chanel were able to secure the team prize, which also resulted in a rather huge trophy!
Riding the Revolver Disc wheels in the rear of their Boardman Air TT and TTE machines, the solo riders gathered power information via the Verve Cycling Infocranks installed on their bikes. With their aero-focused equipment package completed by the KASK Bambino TT helmet, the riders were also all UCI legal to ensure they gained best possible practice for the higher profile events they will tackle in the future.
Hannah was aboard her 2017 edition trike, which she successfully crowdfunded earlier in the year following an arson attack on her previous machine. It was fantastic for the rest of the team to see this up close, finished with the amazing touch of having each of the crowdfunder names written on the tubing.
Next up for the team will be the Pirelli Supercrit on Saturday 23rd September at the NEC. The event is part of the Bike Show being held at the NEC over the course of the weekend and will see riders tackle a technical circuit which starts and finishes in Hall 16 at the Show. Following this the team will complete the road season with the Monsal Hill Climb, sponsored by our Medical Partner, HMT Hospitals and the Closed Circuit Time Trial Championships at Thruxton.

Chanel hits the fastest time of the team with a 22:36 whilst Monica looks smooth in her textbook aero position.
