Press Ride for Tour of the Wolds

With the news of Storey Racing hot off the press the team were instantly in PR action on behalf of the organisers and sponsors of the first round of the National Women’s Road Series. Having won the Series back in 2012, Dame Sarah Storey knows the events well and was delighted to hear of a new route being scheduled for the 2017 edition of the series.

Based out of Louth the course takes in a demanding route to a flatter loop of the Wolds before returning along the same outbound section and finishing with two loops of a criterium style town centre circuit. Expected to be a small group sprint by the finish, the route does lend itself to breakaways and is not for the faint hearted with several technical descents and some lung busting steep sections thrown in too.

On the day of the launch, 7 Storey Racing riders set out in the pouring rain for what was 100km of horrendous conditions. As one rider said at the end, “if the race day weather is the same we will have it nailed!”

Starting with a challenging course will be a superb opening and with rolling road closures the riders will be able to experience the benefits of being able to use both sides of the road as they will do when they step up to UCI level.

Speaking about the event Dame Sarah Storey said, “This is a superb addition to the Women’s Road Series, to have closed roads or a rolling road closure on at least 5 of the 8 rounds, is a good step towards where the series needs to be in providing the UK’s women the best opportunity of developing towards a UCI level race. The Tour of the Wolds is going to be a brutal race and with the likely crosswinds should allow for some aggressive riding from the best teams in the race. I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out!”
