The newly crowned National Hill Climb Champion, Joscelin Lowden, and 2nd Under 23 at the UCI C1 event at Crosstober Wales on Sunday, Ffion James, are the latest two riders to confirm their membership of Storey Racing for 2018.
Lowden on the attack at National Road Series R8
Lowden has had a stand out season in 2017 having only turned to competitive cycling in the summer of 2016, following her previous sporting success as a runner. Her rapid rise through the racing ranks saw her secure some impressive top 5 results in National Series races and her most recent success was in Sunday’s National Hill Climb Championship.
Speaking of her move to Storey Racing for 2018, Lowden said, “I’m excited to be lining up for Storey Racing in 2018, from chatting to the riders on the team this year they have really enjoyed being part of the set up and have lots of positive things to say about good communication and organisation. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to the racing and trying to be the best I can be for both my own expectations and that of the team.”
Ffion in action for her Abergavenny Road Club at Crosstober Wales
Ffion James might primarily be known for her off road prowess in cyclo-cross, but she guested for Storey Racing in the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in July after some superb National Road Series results, and impressed everyone with her tenacity for reading the race and working for the team. Having been selected for the Cyclo-cross World Championships in Luxembourg earlier this year, she is targeting her 3rd selection for the Worlds in February. Currently embarking on the current winter ‘cross season, James will join up with the team from 1st February 2018. In addition, she’s has just started a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge University and is already doing a superb job of balancing racing at the top level with her studies.
“I guested for the team back in July which was an amazing experience and I loved the atmosphere both in and around the race. I thought all the riders and staff worked really well together and I think joining the team will really bring me on as a rider.” Ffion said of her decision to move to the team from February 1st. “I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to some more road racing and whilst I don’t have any particular ambitions for the road season hopefully I can come away with a few decent results too!”
Confirming their membership to the team Sports Director, Barney Storey, spoke of his delight at securing two such talented and developing riders. “We welcome both Ffion and Joss to the team and are delighted to have them on board. Both riders have some incredible strengths and are keen to build on these whilst developing other areas of their physiology.”
“Having worked with Ffion during our UCI racing block in the summer I know what a strong and dedicated individual she is. Alongside Beth Crumpton and Anna Kay we have the makings of an impressive ‘cross team, with Ffion keen to use a strong road season to benefit her off road form.”
“Joss is a climbing specialist which will be vital to the team in a number of races and she also has a solid time-trialling capability which we are keen to help her develop. Still very new to competitive cycling, it will be exciting to see her working alongside our existing riders.”
With 11 riders now confirmed for 2018, one final rider will be announced in the coming weeks.
