Today it is confirmed that Emily Nelson is the first new rider to join Storey Racing for 2018, with her team membership starting with immediate effect to incorporate the current winter track season.
A member of the Great Britain Olympic Programme and based out of the Manchester Velodrome, at just 20 years old, Emily is one of the rising stars of recent years having progressed through the British Cycling Academy Programme. In 2017 she won silver at the World Track Championships in Hong King in the Madison event partnering Olympic Champion Elinor Barker and had a strong showing at the Tour Series, winning the Northwich round in fine style. Her road form has been impressive across a range of events with three top 10 finishes in UCI events and a 2nd placed finish at the prestigious Lincoln Grand Prix.
Her natural speed and strength make her a perfect addition to the Storey Racing line up as she joins riders Monica Dew, Neah Evans, EJay Harris, Chanel Mason and Hannah Dines who are also confirmed as extending their membership of the Storey Racing team in to 2018.
Speaking of her move to join the team, Emily said, “I am delighted to be moving to Storey Racing with immediate effect and to have my plans mapped out in to 2018 as well. The team are well known for helping riders with the balancing act of National Team membership and road racing so it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to be able to continue my road development as I also focus on track goals with the British Cycling team.”
“Joining for the whole of the track season gives me the added benefit of having additional track racing opportunities in the winter months with the Revolution Series. I am currently focusing on a return after injury and will race in the London Six Day later this month, where I will be partnering Neah Evans in the Madison event and hope to have my first racing opportunity with Storey Racing soon after this.”
Speaking of how the line up is progressing, Sports Director Barney Storey said, “I am delighted to be adding Emily Nelson to an already strong line up of powerful riders which includes track and road riders Neah and Monica, as well as our Tour Series Eisberg Sprints jersey winner, EJay Harris. Chanel Mason stays on after an incredible breakthrough year as does our trike specialist Hannah Dines.”
“We will have a roster of 12 riders in 2018 and I look forward to being able to announce the remaining slots as we reach agreements with the riders.”
Storey Racing debuted in the UK Women’s peloton in March 2017 winning the National Road Series Individual title with Lizzy Banks having held that leader’s jersey with Chanel Mason from round 2 of 9. Adding UCI success as a guest team at the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour and Tour de Yorkshire, the team were also very active in the Tour Series, securing the Eisberg sprints jersey with EJay Harris.
Speaking of the first road season, Barney continued, “It has been a pleasure to watch our riders excel during our inaugural year as a team. We have been very active in every race we have entered and seen some incredible progression from many riders, this includes seeing Lizzy Banks move on to a professional contract with UCI Women’s Team UHC Procycling. In 2018 the plan is to continue to provide as many racing opportunities as we can in a supportive and nurturing environment, whilst demanding the highest standards of professionalism from everyone within the team.”
