Beth Crumpton and Anna Kay secured 1st and 3rd at the opening round of the National Cyclocross Trophy and now both riders confirm their membership of Storey Racing for 2018. For Crumpton the news marks her 3rd year under the guidance of Barney and Sarah Storey, whilst for Kay it marks her transition into her first year as an under 23 rider, after using 2017 as a transition from mountain bike to road racing on the national women’s circuit.

During 2017 both riders have had notable success. For Anna this included the Junior National Cross Country MTB Series as well as competing in several Women’s National Road Series events, securing top 15 results, which is what caught the eye of Storey Racing. Additionally Anna rode impressively at the Ras na MBan, finishing as 2nd junior and 18th overall, and as with the road series riding on junior gears against senior riders.

Having initially joining the Storey’s programme as part of the Podium Ambition Scholarship Team in 2016, Crumpton has been a driving force behind so many of the results within the Storey Racing road season in her role as road captain during 2017. These results include overall victory in the National Road Series and best amateur team at the Tour de Yorkshire, as well as 5 days in the best amateur jersey at the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour. Now successfully transitioned in to her cyclocross season, Crumpton’s ride to win the Derby round of the National CX Trophy was an impressive display of strength and pacing tactics, putting behind her the disappointment of illness at the first UCI World Cup rounds in the USA.

In 2018 both riders will again target a dual season, with Kay seeing out the remainder of the cyclocross season with her current team before joining Storey Racing from 1st February. Crumpton meanwhile has a busy schedule of World Cups to ride in between the National Trophy events before taking a break and preparing to hit the road again in April.

Speaking of her move to the under 23 ranks and Storey Racing, Anna Kay said, “Storey Racing is a prominent team in the women’s peloton with a group of supportive individual riders to be around and the team has a nice feel. I am really keen to be a part of a team with a high profile, experience of elite competition and a commitment to developing their riders.”

“As well as the profile and reputation of the team I wanted to be a part of a talented women’s team riding at the highest level nationally and internationally. I’m hoping to support the team in its ambitions in 2018 and gain valuable experience as an under 23 rider.”

“I’d love to complete a full season of the Women’s National Road Series and also hope to gain some European experience too. I’m keen to build on my recent cyclocross success too by racing in Europe.”

For Beth Crumpton staying with Storey Racing was an easy decision, “I’m so excited to be staying with Storey Racing in 2018 and have thoroughly enjoyed my first full road season with them this year. I am really looking forward to improving my roles within the team from what I learnt this year.”

“I also love the fact I can represent the team over two disciplines with cyclocross in the winter, and working towards individual and team goals with a great team of people around me.”

Confirming both riders to the roster, Sports Director Barney Storey shared the excitement of the riders saying, “It’s brilliant to be able to announce another two riders to our growing squad for 2018. Anna Kay is our second new recruit and has already shown an incredible maturity during our testing and initial induction process. Her results on junior gears in 2017 have been very impressive and it was great to watch her at the recent National CX Trophy event in Derby.”

“We are building a strong and varied squad for 2018 and have made the commitment to our sponsors to create year round coverage through a multidiscipline approach. Beth has already shown how effective a road season can be for a cyclocross rider and we are all excited to bring Anna in to the line up as an under 23 rider. I think the pair will complement each other very well both on and off road and I am excited to see the continued progression.”
